Step back to the summer of 1970 when a young Linda Hoover recorded her debut album, I Mean To Shine, at Manhattan’s Advantage Sound Studio. Collaborating with music legends Gary Katz, Walter Becker, and Donald Fagen, Hoover’s album features an impressive lineup, including future Steely Dan members like Denny Dias and Eric Weissberg.
I Mean To Shine showcases three original tracks by Hoover, alongside covers such as The Band’s “In A Station” and Stephen Stills’ “4+20.” Almost half of the album was crafted by Becker and Fagen, including the title track. Despite its brilliance, the album was initially shelved due to a business disagreement, leaving Hoover to navigate a difficult path back to her musical dreams.
Now, with the support of her original producer, Gary Katz, this hidden gem finally sees the light of day, complete with a remastered audio experience and stunning artwork. Limited to just 2,000 copies, this limited edition Linda Hoover record is a must-have for any serious collector.
