Ryan Patterson has dedicated over twenty-five years to enriching Louisville’s vibrant punk scene with his dynamic and activist-driven approach. Known for his graphic design talents and contributions to DIY culture, Patterson spent a dozen years leading the innovative punk band Coliseum. With Fotocrime, he draws inspiration from the urban sounds of London, New York, and Berlin, merging his hardcore roots with the classic influences of EBM and post-punk.
On his third album, Heart Of Crime, Patterson delves into what he calls ‘electric Southern romanticism.’ This collection pulses with energetic synths, driving drum machines, and sharp guitar riffs. Unlike many artists who use these elements to create a mood of detachment, Patterson focuses on emotional depth throughout his work. Following the live-recorded drums of South Of Heaven, this album marks his first venture into self-recording and mixing, resulting in a profoundly personal and direct response to the isolation of quarantine life.
Listeners will find a blend of heartland sincerity and urban underground influences, akin to a post-punk Leonard Cohen. Heart Of Crime captures the longing for connection, making it perfect for blasting in dimly lit clubs or intimate venues. It reflects both solitude and the exhilarating communal experience of music, drawing listeners into a world beyond their immediate surroundings.
