At Mr Bongo, we have a deep appreciation for the artistry of Hozan Yamamoto. This legendary figure in Japanese jazz has made an indelible mark on music, being honored as a ‘living national treasure’ by the Japanese government in 2002. Over the past five decades, Yamamoto has redefined the genre, blending elements of fusion, funk, and spiritual jazz into a compelling discography filled with rare masterpieces.
We are thrilled to reissue one of his most groundbreaking works, Akuma Ga Kitarite Fue Wo Fuku, which translates loosely to ‘The Devil Comes Playing The Flute.’ This album serves as the original soundtrack vinyl for Kôsei Saitô’s 1979 mystery film, Devil’s Flute, based on a captivating tale by renowned author Seishi Yokomizo, featuring the beloved fictional detective Kosuke Kindaichi.
Commissioned directly by producer Haruki Kadokawa, Yamamoto collaborated with keyboard virtuoso Yu Imai to create an extraordinary blend of cosmic beats and funky grooves. This soundtrack is a stunning mix that showcases Yamamoto’s inventive spirit, compelling the listener to experience a vibrant fusion of genres, from disco to neo-classical.
Whether you’re a collector seeking cheap Hozan Yamamoto records or you’re looking for the best funk music soundtracks, this album is a true gem that deserves a place in your vinyl collection.
