Discover the charm of Devendra Banhart’s Mala, a limited edition vinyl that showcases the artist’s unique sound. Released in 2013, this LP features a bonus 7′ single and a CD edition, making it one of the best limited edition vinyl records available.
Banhart, known for his eclectic style, co-produced this album with his longtime collaborator Noah Georgeson. The duo recorded most of the instruments themselves, utilizing a vintage Tascam recorder sourced from a pawn shop. Banhart shares his creative journey: “A lot of early Hip Hop had been made on [the Tascam]. Knowing my songs are not Hip Hop whatsoever, we thought it would be interesting to see how these kinds of songs would sound on equipment that was used to record our favorite Rap.” This innovative approach marks a departure from their past work, where they focused on using the oldest equipment possible.
